The University of Delaware and the Delaware Symphony are partnering to present a master class with world renowned mezzo-soprano, Denyce Graves on Saturday, March 25th at 1pm at Gore Recital Hall, the University of Delaware. Ms. Graves will be performing with the Delaware Symphony Orchestra under the direction of David Amado on Friday, March 24th at the Grand Opera House and Sunday, March 26th at Dover High School.  Student tickets ($10) are still available for both performances.

ABOUT DENYCE GRAVES –Mezzo-Soprano

Recognized worldwide as one of today’s most exciting vocal stars, Denyce Graves continues to gather unparalleled popular and critical acclaim in performances on four continents. USA Today identifies her as “an operatic superstar of the 21st Century,” and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution exclaims, “if the human voice has the power to move you, you will be touched by Denyce Graves.”

The combination of her expressive, rich vocalism, elegant stage presence, and exciting theatrical abilities allows her to pursue a wide breadth of operatic portrayals and to delight audiences in concert and recital appearances. Denyce Graves has become particularly well-known to operatic audiences for her portrayals of the title roles in Carmen and Samson et Dalila. These signature roles have brought Ms. Graves to all the major Opera Houses of the world, and she has made numerous  recordings. Among the many awards she has received is the Marian Anderson Award, presented to her personally by Miss Anderson.

Ms. Graves’s dedication to the singers of the next generation continues to be an important part of her career and recently she joined the voice faculty of the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore. In addition to her session with Dover High School Students following the concert, during her time in Delaware, she will give a Master Class on Saturday, February 25, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., at Gore Recital Hall, Roselle Center for the Arts, University of Delaware, which is open to the public at no charge.
