Cuts, Tardies and Disruption of the Educational Process
Class Cut/Skipping Class
- First infraction – Detention assigned. Parent contacted. No credit for work due or missed.
- Second infraction – In-School Suspension assigned. Parent contacted. No credit for work due or missed.
- Subsequent infractions – Student excluded from school pending a conference with the school administration, parent and student. No credit for work due or missed.
Note: If a student leaves the school grounds without permission, it is a minimum one day Out of School Suspension. Days missed while suspended out of school will count towards the 25 days allowed by district (see Chapter 3 in RCCSD Student Code of Conduct).
Unexcused Tardy to School
(Recording begins the second week of school)
- If a student is not in his/her first class of the day by 7:35am, he/she is considered late to school.
- Unexcused tardies to school are cumulative for each marking period as it relates to school consequences.
- Unexcused tardies to school will be reset to zero each marking period.
- Tardies #1 – 3 – Documented.
- Tardy #4 – Detention.
- Tardy #5 – Student excluded from school pending a conference with the school administration, parent and student. Student will be placed on a Student Attendance Contract. An In-School Suspension will be issued for subsequent unexcused tardies to school through the end of each marking period.
- Unexcused tardies are cumulative for the year as it relates to a student’s permanent attendance record and Choice.
- Students who reach 10 unexcused tardies to school are eligible for exit at the end of the current school year per District Choice guidelines.
Note: It is the responsibility of the parent to monitor tardies to school via the HAC (Home Access Center).
Unexcused Tardy to Class
(Starting with the second class of the day)
- Unexcused tardies to class are not cumulative.
- A detention will be issued for every three (3) unexcused tardies from the reporting teacher/s. In other words, two (2) unexcused tardies from Teacher A + one (1) unexcused tardy from Teacher B does not result in a detention.
Disruption of the Educational Process (Consequence Guidelines)
- Referral #1 – Class removal/student reflection form/mediation/return to class if possible. Teacher contacts parent.
- Referral #2 – Class removal/student reflection form/mediation/return to class if possilbe. Teacher contacts parent. Detention if warranted.
- Referrals #3-4 – Class removal/student reflection form/mediation/return to class if possible. In-School Suspension. Parent contact by teacher and administration.
- Referral #5 – Class removal/student reflection form. Student excluded from school pending conference with parent, student and administration. Student placed on a contract which will outline consequences for future disruptions.
