Welcome to Cab Calloway!
Welcome to the Cab Calloway School of the Arts Website! Our site is designed to be user-friendly and informative. At Calloway, we strive for excellence, both artistically and academically. We welcome your feedback at any time. Please let us know how we can best serve you. We are proud of the many successes of our students! As we start the new school year, we are thrilled to offer a strings major to our sixth grade students for the first time ever! We’ve also added a piano major to 8th grade, and are looking to expand both programs in future years! We offer piano and strings as a major in our high school as well. All of our sophomores will participate in an SAT prep program this fall, following their course work in driver education. We are thrilled to continually improve our programs to meet the demands of our talented kids! We’ve added Advanced Placement Art History to our high school curriculum this year as well, in addition to a new pathway in our communication arts major – Digital Media and Imaging. Our students will be prepared for college and for future careers!
We are working now to develop additional opportunities for our students based on interests we’ve heard – you can expect to hear more about our new recording studio and some after school opportunities in that field. We’re also working with the Cab Calloway School Fund to offer after school opportunities in a variety of areas such as hip hop, tap, stage combat, three dimensional art, improvisation, guitar, and Adobe Photoshop. (A fee to cover the cost of the instructor and materials would be charged. Scholarships may be an option.) We’re open to your ideas.
Our families are a critical component to our success. We welcome the involvement of our parents and community. Our programs demand rigor and dedication. Participation is critical not only from our students and faculty members, but from our parents and community members who help to guide our goals. Our school community is very active, and we welcome your participation. Thank you for your interest in our school.

WRAPPED IN PRIDE EXHIBIT – Gallery – Through March 2, 2012
February 3 to March 2, 2012
The exhibition opens February 3, 2012 and will close on March 2, 2012.
The opening reception is Friday, Feb 3, from 5 to 8 pm.
This professionally produced large exhibition has traveled through communities in our country for several years, hosted at famous museums including the Smithsonian in Washington DC. Cab Calloway School is proud and delighted to host its only visit to Delaware.
In African American communities across the United States, kente is much more than mere cloth: it is a symbol of African pride and a powerful cultural icon. An exhibition at the Cab Calloway School of the Arts, 100 North Dupont Road, Wilmington DE 19807 from February 3 to March 2, 2012 explores the art of making kente, its symbolism in the cultures of Africa, and its expression of identity in African American communities.
The exhibition explores kente weaving traditions, explains the fabric’s journey across an ocean and the symbolic transformation that occurred when kente was embraced around the world. The exhibition also examines the cloth’s prevalence during the months of Christmas, Kwanzaa, Martin Luther King Day, and African American History Month, each an occasion for African American communities to consider the power, strength, and faith represented by vibrant, symbolic kente.
The gallery is open during the school day from 9 am – 2 pm. Visitors must register at the school office before entering the gallery. Special group tours led by student docents can be arranged. For more information, go to www.cabcallowayschool.org or call the school at 651-2700. Wrapped in Pride is made possible by funding from NEH on the Road, Mid-America Arts Alliance, Cab Calloway School Fund, and Cab Calloway School of the Arts.

Cab Calloway School is participating in the MIDDLE STATES ACCREDITATION process. As a school, we have been involved in our self study over the last year and a half. In collaboration with faculty, parents and students, we have reviewed our progress, made updates to our mission statement, and developed objectives for our next steps toward improvement. Our site visit team is scheduled to come to our school in April of 2012. We will be providing additional information to our greater school community in the next several months as we move through this very important evaluation process of our school.
