CAB CALLOWAY SCHOOL of the ARTS

Follow the following rubric and instructions

Middle School Vocal Music

Each student’s assessment will consist of the following:

  1. Warm Up: Sing a few simple warm up exercises to test vocal range.
  2. Pitch Matching: Sing back a series of pitches the instructor will play on the piano to demonstrate aural memory and the ability to sing higher notes in head voice.
  3. Dona Nobis Pacem: Sing Dona Nobis Pacem in the key of F major from memory (no sheet music).
    1. The sheet music to practice with can be found here.
    2. The recording we will be using for the audition can be found here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fhJ6XrZ4jg
    3. Be prepared to sing the piece twice: as a solo and in a round with a recording.
  4. Broadway/Disney Solo: Sing 16 measures (or about 45 seconds) of a song from a Broadway Show or a Disney animated movie. Some of the more popular possibilities are: “Castle on a Cloud” from Les Mis, “Maybe” or “Tomorrow” from Annie or “Do-Re-Mi” from The Sound of Music. Above all, choose a song you like and feel confident singing, however, please make sure that it is school appropriate. If you have questions, please email Julie Katz at [email protected].
  5. Sight Singing: Sing a simple sight singing exercise by reading notes and rhythms in a three-note range; do, re, mi. For more information on sight singing, click here.
