CAB CALLOWAY SCHOOL of the ARTS

All students are expected to comply immediately with any reasonable request made by teachers and/or the administration.

CAB CALLOWAY STUDENT DRESS CODE (in conjunction with RCCSD Dress Chp. 2, Student Code of Conduct).

The following regulations shall govern the dress and grooming of students (male and female) in all grades at Cab Calloway School of the Arts. Student dress may vary with instructional activity and special events when announced by Dean Rumschlag. The school administration has the final say in all dress code situations/decisions.

Students in violation of the dress code will not be allowed in class w/out appropriate attire and may be sent home. Students who come to school out of dress code but bring appropriate clothing (in the event he/she is caught) are still in violation of the dress code. It is not the school’s responsibility to provide appropriate clothing for students out of compliance.

  1. Students may wear sleeveless attire with discretion.  Strapless tops and spaghetti straps ARE NOT permitted.  Sleeveless tops that are too revealing are not acceptable (e.g. t-shirts w/the sleeves and underarms cut out and worn with a sports bra).  Sleeveless tops must cover the upper body – no midriff tops.  The administration reserves the right to deem any top (worn by male and/or female) as unacceptable.  The body SHOULD BE COVERED.  Undergarments should not be visible.
  2. With regard to shorts and skirts – no more than 4 inches above the top of the knee is the maximum length allowed.  Leggings must be worn with skirts and shorts that are more than 4 inches above the top of the knee.  Leggings are considered to be equivalent to pants – not hosiery.  In other words, the leggings would be able to be worn on their own.
  3. The mid-section of the body must be entirely covered at all times. We should never see your navel (belly button).
  4. Clothing that is extremely tight or revealing IS NOT PERMITTED. This includes the ever popular blue jeans with multiple holes, many in “strategic” places.
  5. Dance classes and physical education classes will provide guidelines for attire for those programs. When students are not in such classes, the Cab Calloway dress code is in effect at all times.
  6. No derogatory comments or inappropriate language (e.g. curse words/sexual innuendo, etc.) are permitted on student’s clothing or belongings such as a book bag.
  7. No “Sag and Drag” pants.

Remember, students in violation of the dress code will not be allowed in class w/out appropriate attire and may be sent home. Students who come to school out of dress code but bring appropriate clothing (in the event he/she is caught) are still in violation of the dress code. It is not the school’s responsibility to provide appropriate clothing for students out of compliance.

**For clarification purposes –

If a skirt or shorts are worn that are shorter than the required length, LEGGINGS that are completely opaque (NOT ABLE TO SEE THROUGH AT ALL) MUST be worn underneath.  Tights or hosiery that are at all see-through are not acceptable to be worn under such a skirt/shorts.  The only acceptable way to wear a skirt or shorts that are shorter than 4 inches above the top of knee will be if a student ALSO wears appropriate leggings.  Students who wear skirts/shorts within the dress code requirements may, of course, wear them with accompanying tights/hosiery as desired. The school administration reserves the right to make a judgment call on appropriate attire when necessary.
