STUDENT ASSIGNMENTS DURING SUMMER | 7001.08 The Red Clay Consolidated School District recommends that students enrich and enhance their learning in the summertime. However, the District does not embrace the concept of “required” summer work, as it may serve as a barrier in the course selection process. Further, the District understands teachers must provide ample instruction prior to requiring or grading any type of student assignment.
Below are the standards for summer work in Red Clay:
- All summer assignments are recommended; no summer work is required
- No summer assignments or assessments may be graded
- Summer work may not be used toward an assessment early in the school year until teachers have taught the material
- All recommended summer work must tie directly to the content and standards of a given course
- Summer work cannot be used to exclude or penalize a student in any way.
