Schedules

Click on the corresponding week below to see the schedule.

Week of March 30 - April 3

Monday, March 30th:

All teachers communicate with their classes as to their two week plan. (This is broad, and lets students and families know how a teacher plans to interact with students over the course of the two week period.) This does not have to specify content that teachers will be covering. (Red Clay is providing a guide for learning for students through Grade 8).

10:00 AM – 12:00 PM – The building will be open for parents to pick up CRITICAL documents. (This is not a general time to gather in the building. We do not anticipate A LOT of traffic.) This is an opportunity to pick up essentials only such as a Chromebook, a required textbook, medication, a musical instrument, an art project that is already started and in the studio, etc.)

Tuesday, March 31st:

Teachers will be spending time preparing for their work for students, letting them know the schedule, and helping to make sure they are ready for virtual learning.

Please note: The above schedule is a guide. We realize it may not work for every family. If a teacher IS meeting live with a class, it will take place as noted above, but students may work on whatever work is suggested as their schedule allows. We do think the structure, however, will be beneficial to many of our students.

We are excited for this opportunity to provide enrichment to our students. This is new for all of us, so we expect there will be bumps in the road. Our teaching teams will be meeting at least weekly (virtually of course) to re-evaluate and make plans for the following weeks. However, we do plan to continue the A Day, B Day schedule with no class period rotation. (This also aligns with the Charter School of Wilmington for students who are taking classes with CSW.)

In addition, please note that our counseling team and school nurse are available to you via email. Please feel free to reach out to them as needed. Our counseling team also put together the “Check in with the CAB Support Team” survey for our students to assess who needs extra support.

Grading and Marking Period Information

We have heard from Red Clay that we will be continuing with the third marking period through the end of the school year. Final grades for the year will be calculated based on trimesters (1, 2, and 3.). Students are encouraged to relearn, resubmit, and reassess any formative or summative grades given during the third quarter through March 13. Contact your teachers for details.

We will also be providing enrichment and new learning to carry us through the end of the year, however, new learning will not be graded and will not count toward the third quarter grade unless it is used to boost a grade (extra credit).

We will be sending clarification regarding the remainder of the school year as we know more.

End of Year Events

We know that year end activities as we know them are not going to be able to take place this year. We will not be able to have our traditional commencement exercises on June 5th. We are not going to be able to have our prom in late May. We are not going to be able to hold our 8th grade finale ceremony. I know there were many other year end events we had hoped for as well – we know this is a very difficult time for many and all of us are suffering loss at various levels. I can assure you we are working to do whatever we can to provide some closure for our students, especially for our 8th graders and our seniors.

We are working with Red Clay to consider the options of doing a virtual commencement ceremony. And our School Leadership Team began our planning today for the creation of something special to celebrate your success and outstanding achievement.

That all being said, many seniors have ordered caps and gowns already. We have those at the school and will be setting up a time to distribute those to you so that you have them for the ceremony we are planning to celebrate with you. (Jostens is not providing refunds on purchased items.)

For those seniors have not ordered a cap and gown, orders are still being taken by Jostens, but we are not going to require that you do so at this point. If you did not place a cap and gown order, we will have options for attire for whatever ceremony we put together for you.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your class advisor, Mr. Dan Kafader at dan.kafader@redclay.k12.de.us or to Dean Rumschlag at julie.rumschlag@redclay.k12.de.us.

Red Clay Graduation Week (June 8-14)

Over seven days, we will honor the Class of 2020 with a first-of-its-kind celebration devoted to every graduating class. Each Red Clay school will have a virtual ceremony in the evening, and pre-ceremony fun with videos from families, photos from graduates, and much more. During the ceremony, you and your friends and family members will be able to comment and interact with the school and with each other.

While we recognize that nothing can take the place of a traditional commencement ceremony, the online ceremonies will honor the hard work of the Class of 2020 with special guests, performances and ways to interact with other viewers. You will also be able to hear messages from your school leaders and listen to the names of Class of 2020 graduates being read.

Stay tuned for more details from your school.

In addition to honoring graduates during Red Clay Graduation Week, please know that we are exploring options for holding a districtwide celebration at a later date, once it is deemed safe to bring people together for large gatherings. We will continue to provide updates on the possibility of a future celebration, but our main focus for this spring is to honor our graduates with an unforgettable experience with Red Clay Graduation Week.

We’re ready to celebrate our seniors and all that they’ve accomplished! Gather with your loved ones and meet us online for your spring commencement ceremony.
